Emily Young

Using objects and situations taken from the nature or contemporary urban environment, I've been exploring the phenomenology of structures, in which I try to make visible the poetry of physical connection and paradox.
My interest in mapping and geometry is evident in my recent work, Family Tree.

The tree branches overlaid with the similar images to make repetitive patterns create fields of shattered abstract shapes in which spatial confusions and perceptual ambiguities predominate. Abstraction and the incorporation of the natural element became for me a transformational tool leading me through a “labyrinth” of discovery about nature and the nature of the world we think we see.
