Lindsey Smith Inspired by the camera obscura I have been revisiting the basic principles and early apparatus of photography. What sits at the heart of my work is a fascination with the persistent and seductive sense of the missed encounter apparent in the photographic image, and how this indicates a perpetual sense of loss, or lack, in human experience. Encounters is a collection of moving-image works and installations that echo particular image-making technologies, drawing attention to the devices that we employ in our attempt to seize, decipher and possess experience. My intention is to reflect upon the melancholic desire that the photographic impulse unveils. | ||
