Jon Santa Cruz

These images look at the landscape and architecture where two worlds collide. The sink estates, soon to become zones earmarked for redevelopment, where a growing underclass that is socially and economically excluded is persistently marginalised to the point where we no longer see its’ inhabitants. While looming in the background stand the towers of the corporate powerhouse, faceless cold engineering of the capitalist machine.
But no sooner have these ‘slumlands’ been allowed to decay beyond redemption the developers move in to create their Shangri-La utopian vision of middle class living, with the homogeneous housing plots, gated communities reflecting their occupants’ ubiquitous life aspirations based around consumption.
