Famagusta is Waiting: This project reflects the memory and nostalgia associated with historical and political issues.
July 1974 saw the Turkish invasion of Cyprus. My grandfather, a much respected trader in the town of Famagusta, lost everything in this war. The distress caused him to develop Pericarditis, a rare heart disease that his immune system was unable to fight. He passed away in July 1999. Up to his death he continued to lead the life he once had, believing that one day Cyprus would be reunited.
This project combines family pictures, the fenced town of Famagusta, photographs of the pre-war shop, the souvenir shop he opened after the war, and his personal belongings.
