HISTORIA


		Peter Bennett My work explores how the topography of landscape relates to ideas of memory and place. The camera, as an instrument of perception, tries to capture my impressions, but in doing so produces its own version of experience. I am confronted by the visual traces that the past has etched into the external appearance of places. These are like views of absence. The photograph offers me a wealth of detail in its precise delineation of surface appearances, but in its role of revealing the lived moment, I am always prevented from directly touching the reality of that moment or the past that created it.
